Fresh from the success of Race, the duo was present on the occasion to bolster the spirits of Mahadevan, who has worked in quite a few Abbas Mustan films as well during his stint as an actor. Mahadevan quite unabashedly admitted to being greatly influenced by the duo’s style of filmmaking. Anamika The Untold Story is a romance thriller according to the director. Besides Minissha, the film also stars Dino Morea, Koena Mitra and Gulshan Grover. The film is expected to hit the theatres in the first week of May.

the debut film of veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty’s son

It is almost becoming like a jinx. The release of Jimmy, the debut film of veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty’s son, Mimoh, is reportedly to have been delayed again. The film, which has been directed by Raj N Sippy, was originally due to release last year.

Jimmy’s release was pushed to this year. The date for the film’s release was fixed for April 25, but according to reports, the film will not be releasing on that day. According to the news doing the rounds, Sahara, which was supposed to release the movie, has backed out. The film’s producer Nawman Malik, however, is believed to have said that the film has been delayed because they wanted to avoid a clash with Yash Raj’s Tashan, which is all set to release on the same day. According to him, Jimmy was stuck between Krazzy 4 and U Me Aur Hum on one side and Tashan on the other. Hence, the decision to delay the film’s release for a while. Thankfully the fate of Jimmy has not affected Mimoh’s career. The youngster is currently shooting for Loot in Singapore.

superhit Pakistani film Salakhain,

Coming close on the heels of Khuda Kay Liye is the superhit Pakistani film Salakhain, which is all set to be released in India next week. Innovision Communications Pvt Ltd are the importers and distributors of the film.

The film’s Indian premiere will be held in Mumbai on April 17. A special screening is also scheduled to be held at Noida’s Spice Cinema on April 18. The Pakistan High Commission will be the guest of honour at the screening. Leading lady Meera Sheikh, producer Rashid Khwaja, and director Shahzad Rafique will also attend the special screening in Noida.

Two diverse releases,

Two diverse releases, one featuring the son of the original Disco Dancer, Mithun Chakraborty and the other, the comeback film of the serial kisser, have both been postponed. Obviously we are talking about Mimoh Chakraborty’s JIMMY and Emraan Hashmi’s JANNAT.
While JIMMY, which was scheduled to release on the coming Friday and JANNAT, which was set for a May 2nd release have both gone ahead to the same date. The two very different projects are now likely to see an interesting clash on the 16th of May. It may augar well for both considering that their publicity has not yet reached the peak.

While the audio of JIMMY has just been released, it will definitely take some time to grow. On the other hand, the music of JANNAT has started dominating the charts, with the two songs, ‘Lambi Judaai’ and ‘Zara Si’ already quite popular. However the publicity of JANNAT has not really been upto the standards associated with Vishesh Films and hopefully they will do the needful with more time at hand.

Neetu Chandra has delivered three successful films in a row

Neetu Chandra has delivered three successful films in a row - GARAM MASALA, TRAFFIC SIGNAL and now most recently ONE TWO THREE - but she still continues to be rooted to the ground. She insists that even with three back to back successes behind her and four films waiting to be released before 2008 comes to an end, she doesn’t intend to be a superstar.
Says Neetu, “Of course one looks for fame and money in Bollywood; I am happy that I am getting it too. Still, it isn’t as if suddenly I have started gaining superstar ambitions. I am happy with the work I am doing and along with good money and name which comes my way; I would be content to be doing good roles.”

Ask her about the kind of price that she is commanding and she answers smartly, “I am not talking about crore deals here but what I am getting is something which I truly deserve. I have a particular pricing in mind if a film maker wants me to be in his project. It feels good that I am getting different kind of films with the kind of price I wish to command.”

“For me working across genres is what my ultimate aim is. If you look at each of the three films I have done, you would see me in distinct roles. This is what I call as my strength. Rather than just picking on roles where I have a song or two to my name and I start fancying sudden stardom, I would rather have my acting speak for itself”, explains Neetu.

Currently Neetu has films like OYE LUCKY LUCKY OYE, FLAT NO. 13 B, MUMBAI CUTTING and an untitled biggie lined up for release. In addition, she has just been signed by Kumar Mangat for two more films after the success of ONE TWO THREE.

The girl is certainly there to stay!

Joginder Tuteja, Bollywood Trade News Network

Recently there was news floating around how Om Puri had to forego growing a beard for his role in SINGH IS KINNG. The reason behind this? Apparently he is allergic to beards and gets rashes whenever he grows one.
However, if one looks just in the recent past, he did have a beard for his role as a Sardar in one of the films. Any guesses?

Well, this was a small film called DELHII HEIGHTS which was directed by debutant Anand Kumar. Since this Jimmy Sheirgill-Neha Dhupia starrer, which hit the screens last year, was Delhi based with Om Puri playing an old Sikh man, he was seen with a beard throughout the film’s duration.

Prior to DELHII HEIGHTS, Om Puri has also been known for his Punjabi act in Priyadarshan’s HERA PHERI and Gulzar’s MAACHIS. Yet again, just like SINGH IS KINNG, he didn’t have a beard in both the films

want to work with Rajini sir: Ash

The much sought after Aishwarya Rai, who has been turning down

movies for more than just lack of time, says she refused Karan Johar’s

comedy Dostana because the quirky situations mentioned in the script

wouldn’t have worked.

Karan wanted to cast her with Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham.

He has now roped in Priyanka Chopra for the female lead.

“I opted out of Dostana because the inter-personal relationships among

the three of us made me uncomfortable. Now that Abhishek and I are

married, the kind of quirky situations shown in Dostana, albeit in a

comic vein, wouldn’t have worked,” Aishwarya said.

When asked why she accepted superstar Rajinikanth starrer Robot,

Aishwarya said: “I want to work with Rajini sir, yaar. He is

phenomenal. Everyone speaks of this experience. I’ll actually go

through the experience. It’s very important for me to come away with

something from my films since I give so much.”

The film is directed by Shankar, who gave Aishwarya her first break in

Jeans.

Excerpts from an interview:

First things first. Did you turn down Karan Johar’s Dostana?

Yes, I opted out of Dostana because the inter-personal relationships

among the three of us made me uncomfortable. Now that Abhishek and

I are married, the kind of quirky situations shown in Dostana, albeit in

a comic vein, wouldn’t have worked.”

But Dhoom 2 and Jodhaa Akbar worked although you were paired

with Hrithik Roshan and not Abhishek?

But Dhoom was before marriage and there was no triangle in Jodhaa

Akbar. Now the audience can’t see me sharing my affections for

Abhishek with another guy. I can’t tell you why it wouldn’t have

worked for Abhishek and I as a pair without giving away the plot.

Karan wasn’t bothered with all these personal considerations, but I felt

otherwise. I thought the audience would wonder, “She likes John and

Abhishek equally? No way!”

Now you’ll be romancing Rajinikanth in Shankar’s Robot?

It’s a total Rajini-Shankar styled entertainer. There’s no logic as to why

I agreed to do it beyond the urge to work with Rajinikanth. Shankar

and Rajni sir have approached me for so many films, it’s embarrassing.

Ever since we did Jeans together Shankar has approached me for all his

films except “Boys”.

Rajini sir, being the senior that he is, has shown no egoistic traits in

approaching me for his last four-five films. And my refusal to do his

films was never misconstrued by him. I admire him for that. It speaks

volumes for his seniority and his calibre as a human being to never

take offence to my no.”

Is that why you said yes to Robot?

This time for Robot it was an immediate yes from me. I just wanted to

work with Rajini sir and Shankar. My Jeans with Shankar was a super

success. I learnt so much from Jeans and Shankar. Robot, too, will be a

learning experience.

Is it a sci-fi film?

It is hard to define. But technically it will take cinema to another level.

I can only say I’ll come away enriched. It’s very important for me to

come away with something from my films since I give so much. I want

to work with Rajini sir, yaar. He’s phenomenal. Everyone speaks of

this experience. I’ll actually go through the experience.

Well you have a seasoned phenomenon [Amitabh Bachchan] in your

own house.

Yes, but I share a different equation with the one in my house. They’re

both institutions. And I’m blessed to work with both. When I look back

at all the leading men, directors and technicians I’ve worked with I feel

totally blessed. It’s a good place to be in.

Krazzy 4 case settled out of court

A plagiarism case pending at the Bombay High Court, which had put a

question mark on the worldwide release of Rakesh Roshan’s Krazzy 4,

has finally been settled out of court.

Advertisement jingle composer Ram Sampath had a fortnight ago filed

a case against the movie’s producer and his music director-brother

Rajesh Roshan, alleging that they deliberately lifted his tunes, which he

had composed for a television commercial and used these in the movie

Krazzy 4.

In his petition, Sampath said when he brought the matter to their

knowledge, both the Roshans refused to acknowledge the fact. He

reportedly asked damages worth Rs 20 million.

Read review: Krazzy 4

The court heard the case on Wednesday and reserved its order till

Thursday even as the much-hyped movie awaited release barely a few

hours later all over the world.

The lawyers of the Roshans worked out a compromise on Thursday in

consultation with Sampath’s lawyer and the matter was settled out of

court.

Earlier, fearing that if the court stayed the release of the movie, it

would entail not only a huge financial loss to him and his distributors

but also put a blot on his prestige, Rakesh Roshan reportedly agreed to

pay Rs 2 million per month to Sampath as interim relief if he withdrew

the case.

When Sampath’s lawyer refused the offer, Roshan reportedly raised the

amount to Rs 2.50 million.

However, it is not yet known at what figure the final settlement was

reached between the two parties.

The comic caper, starring Arshad Warsi, Irrfan Khan, Suresh Menon,

Rajpal Yadav and Juhi Chawla, is Jaideep Sen’s directorial debut.

Sanjay Dutt can shoot abroad’

Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, facing a six-year sentence for illegally

possessing firearms, on Thursday got the Supreme Court’s permission

to go abroad for shooting his films, including Blue.

A bench of Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan also asked Dutt to

complete the shooting by Sep 30.

The bench, which included Justice R V Raveendran and Justice M K

Sharma, while ordering the designated anti-terrorism court of Mumbai

to release Dutt’s passport to enable him go abroad, asked Dutt to return

his passport to the Mumbai court by Sep 30.

Senior counsel Fali S Nariman, appearing for Dutt, pleaded to the

court that the actor has to go to Malaysia, Thailand, and the US to

complete the shooting of his two films and he would be able to

complete his work by Sep 20.

Dutt had moved the court March 13, seeking permission to go abroad

for film shooting.

In his petition filed through advocate Hari Shankar, Dutt sought

release of his passport, impounded by the designated anti-terrorism

court of Mumbai, to enable his foreign jaunts.

Dutt’s passport has been impounded by the court as a condition for his

release on the bail, granted by the apex court. The Supreme Court’s

verdict in pending on his petition challenging his conviction and

six-year sentence for illegally possessing firearms in the run-up to the

1993 serial bombing of Mumbai.

A few days before Dutt filed his petition, the court denied permission

to go abroad to Bollywood film producer Samir Hingora, convicted in

the 1993 Mumbai serial terror bombing case.

The chief justice’s bench refused permission to Hingora, out on bail

now, to go abroad, saying if he was so keen to go abroad, he should

first spend the remaining term of his nine-year sentence in a prison.

Aamir to receive yet another award

Aamir Khan keeps saying that he doesn’t have anything to do with

awards and award functions. Yet being the powerhouse of talent that

he is, every now and then you come across one institution or the other

bestowing an award to him.

The latest is the prestigious Master Deenanath Mangeshkar Award for

his service to Indian cinema. The awards are given in the fields of

classical music, drama, social service, literature and theatre.

The award ceremony will be held at the Shanmukhanand auditorium in

Matunga, Mumbai, on April 24.

Abhishek jams with rapper Wyclef

After his hip hop track in Bluffmaster, Bollywood actor Abhishek

Bachchan got together with American rapper Wyclef Jean for another

number Hollywood meets Bollywood to pay tribute to Hindi cinema

and his legendary father Amitabh Bachchan.

Abhishek sang lyrics like Main yahan ka desi don and Khai ke banarsi

paan, drawing a direct reference to the senior Bachchan in the 1978 hit

Don.

Not only did Jean specially ask for Abhishek to do the track, he also

flew down from his home in New York to Miami to record with

Abhishek and composer Aadesh Shrivastava for a new album that will

release in India in May.

Recounting the collaboration, Shrivastava said: “It was unbelievable.

Jean and I were discussing a track where we needed hip hop rap in

Hindi by an Indian star, when Jean suggested, ‘How about

Abheee-shake?’ Naturally I jumped at the suggestion.

“I’ve recorded many songs with Amitji. And I’ve been waiting for the

right opportunity to record with Abhishek, who I know has a terrific

singing voice.”

Plans were immediately concretised. Since Abhishek was working

within a very tight schedule for Karan Johar’s Dostana in Miami, there

was no choice but for Shrivastava and Jean to fly down to Miami.

“They became musical soul mates within minutes. Since I was the one

who knew both of them, I thought I’d have to play intermediary. There

was instant chemistry between Jean and Abhishek,” said Shrivastava,

who has churned out chartbusters like Say shava shava and Chali chali

phir chali chali.

Abhishek’s lyrics for this sure-fire chartbuster are: “Wyclef, Aadesh

come on rock this party shake shake. Main yahan ka desi don sang mere

ga re. India hamari shaan. Khai ke banarsi paan sang mere tu ga re.”

The song was recorded at the Setai recording studio located in one of

the posh hotels of Miami.

“Abhishek, Jean and I had a ball recording the song till 2.30 a.m. And

then would you believe it, Abhishek headed straight for the shooting of

Dostana, which started at 4 a.m.,” said the composer.

My daughter too young to watch U, Me…’

Listening to Ajay Devgan for 15 minutes makes you realise that he is

not only the consummate actor, but the perfect movie star as well. He

doesn’t really namedrop his way through the interview. But it is clear

that this guy has seen it all. And what’s more, professionally he is on

form—by reinvigorating his acting credentials in his directorial debut

U, Me Aur Hum.

In an exclusive interview over the phone on a cold and windy day in

London, Ajay Devgan answers some of our questions.

What’s more of a responsibility, wearing the director’s hat, directing

your wife, being a husband and a father or producing meaningful

cinema which conveys a strong message?

You are forgetting that the intention was also to make a fun film,

which I have in the first half of the film. As a husband, it wasn’t an

issue working with Kajol because I wasn’t thinking of her as my wife

but as a character. Now when you talk about directing, acting and

producing yourself, you have to be very clear in your head that it

requires a lot of extra hard work because you need more concentration.

After all you are putting your mind in three things at the same time.

But after seeing the film, don’t you think U, Me Aur Hum is eventually

giving a strong message out to the audiences?

I have not made this film to give out any message. It’s sweet of you to

say that, but I feel it is a positive film made with a positive attitude. So

I don’t think that in my film anybody will feel that I gave a message.

They might feel it when they go home. Eventually, it’s a story that talks

about positivity, love, relationships, etc. It will make you laugh and cry

and that was my prime intention.

Read review: U Me Aur Hum

Has your daughter seen the film?

She is too young to see the film and I don’t think that she will be able

to see us facing problems in the film. I am sure that she won’t see U,

Me Aur Hum.

Why show U, Me Aur Hum to Sushma Swaraj, L K Advani, Ravi

Shankar Prasad and other politicians?

Ravi Shankar Prasad is like a family friend. It was his idea to show the

film to the cabinet ministers. Yes, it’s true that the special screening

was the first trial of U, Me Aur Hum and the response was

overwhelming. We had a standing ovation in the end. That was a great

feeling. Mr Advani was a film critic before he became a politician and

that adds to it.

After seeing the film myself, I thought that the Director of

Photography (DOP) has done an excellent job. What credit would you

like to give to Aseem Bajaj?

Aseem has been the DOP in many of my earlier films like Golmaal,

Sunday, etc. It’s very important the way you present your characters and

light them up. I think the DOP needs to understand the mood of the

scene. Hats off to Aseem Bajaj.

I’ve heard a lot about one scene in the film, which took three hours to

shoot. Could you brief us on that?

The scene which you are talking about is the shot in which the seagulls

are seen. It’s the first time that we have used a helicam in our country. I

knew a lot about the helicam, but you need prior permissions from

certain authorities to use it. That’s why I had pre planned all the

necessary things before getting my hands on it. What’s even more

interesting is that the seagulls come out only once early in the morning

and we had to wait for three long hours to take the shot. In fact, in such

situations, there is no room for error.

Why choose faces like Divya Dutta, Karan Khanna and Sumeet

Raghavan for your film?

I wanted actors who were not over exposed and I wanted good

characters. Friends should look like friends, thus such a diverse choice.

I am sure you’ll fall in love with each and every friend of mine in the

film.

Is U, Me Aur Hum going to be a one-off experiment as a director?

I had an idea and I decided to direct a film. U, Me Aur Hum’s idea

touched my heart. There is a possibility that another idea may touch my

heart tomorrow or after two years. If that’s the case then I’ll direct my

second film. My intention is not to keep directing. As of now, I am

thinking of something. If it really inspires me to do it then I’ll go ahead

and direct it, but I’m not in a hurry.

It may come to you as a shock but the restaurant scene during the

climax left many journalists moist eyed. That’s my favourite scene.

Which one’s yours?

You caught me on that one, didn’t you? The restaurant scene with my

friends was a very important scene and you won’t believe it, but I

started the main thought of U, Me Aur Hum with that scene.

So were there any moments when you had your eyes moist?

Lots of time because the script was so close to my heart. When Vishal

Bhardwaj came up to me and made me read the slow and painful title

song’s second verse, it made me cry.

Any message for your fans who are eager to see your first directorial

debut?

I don’t want to give any message. I want them to see the film and I want

them to feel positivity after the film is over because I’m sure they all

will work on their own relationship.

Do you really feel that sometimes the greatest journey is the distance

between two people? That’s your tag line for the film.

You’re right. I do feel very strongly about the quote. I don’t know who

wrote it, but I thought of incorporating it in my film. Even Kajol’s

character in the film says, “Kahin padha tha… kissi ne toh likha hoga.”

The film has bold dialogues, which stand true every time you think of

your relationship with your wife, husband and friends.

When they don’t spare SRK or PM, whom am I?: Rakhi Sawant

If ‘VIP’ means Very Important Person, ‘SOS’ means Save Our Soul,

then it’s only right that the full form of ‘Rakhi’ should be “Real And

Kind Hearted Indian”.

Did you say Rakhi who? The one who was kissed by Mika, fought

solitude in the house of Bigg Boss, took the bull (read Star TV) by its

horns, of course. But the sad thing is that the world mistook this sexy

lady for someone who was merely crazy for publicity! \

If one had the Pulitzer Prize for Democracy, she would win it hands

down, because she speaks what is right and she does what her heart

says is right. She was with Bollywood Hungama surfers and answered

all the questions, without skipping even one! If you don’t believe us,

read the chat excerpt.

Rakhi Sawant: Hi Frendz….

Dimple: Did u always want to become an actress?

Rakhi Sawant: Dimple, Yes. From the childhood itself, acting held big

fancy for me. I was ‘gheraoed’ by loadsa’ of difficulties. I was daring

enough to fight with my parents to become an actress.

Mainaz: How many languages can u speak?

Rakhi Sawant: Mainaz, I can speak 5 languages.

Dimple: Did u know Mika b4 the kissing scenario?

Rakhi Sawant: Dimple, I have done a few shows with him.

Sunny: Hi, why is the media always caught up with the controversy?

Rakhi Sawant: Sunny, media and ppl love me like anything. Whatever I

do, they show it as a controversy! When they cannot spare SRK or the

PM, then, whom am I?

Sunny: so what’s your perception of life b4 and after films?

Rakhi Sawant: Sunny, b4 films, I was having loads of films. And after

films, I am also facing lots of problems and now enemies! The only

difference is that I have money now!

Kamla: Do u think Nach Baliye was unfair?

Rakhi Sawant: Kamla, Nach Baliye was very unfair! V were the 1st

couple who loved only talent. We went with the blessings of God. And

what ever has happened, I have no complaints with that! I am doing

good films after Nach Baliye!

Dimple: R u religious?

Rakhi Sawant: Dimple, VERY MUCH! I am the only 1 who has so

much faith in Him. Whatever I am to do, it is only because of HIM!

Arjun: heyy wow….Rakhi Sawant is here. The hottest girl on earth..Hi

Hrithik: hi Rakhi, how are you, hav u signed a Yash Raj Film?????

Rakhi Sawant: Hrithik, I have just signed a YRF. GOD IS REALLY

KIND!

Dimple: Did u have many friends in school?

friends in school.

Acees: hi Rakhi ji? What r your personal expectations from the ‘item’

in krazzy 4?

Rakhi Sawant: Access, since the song is a huge hit, I just want to thank

Rakeshji, It has just opened a new door and its a huge honor 4 me that I

have got this film.

Dimple: Any plans for Hollywood?

Rakhi Sawant: Dimple, as for Hollywood, I don’t think so because my

English accent is not good. I am open to Hollywood, on my terms and

conditions that there should be no smooching scenes and bed scenes. I

am more than all that!

vacuum of my love, and came back. I 2 cannot live without him. He is

a sweet and a nice guy!

Luce: U ended up with computers outside jails, what was that story?

Rakhi Sawant: Luce, The police were scared of the media. They had

called me with 25 PCs. One minister called the police to say that they

student accept PCs from me - an Item girl. The donor can be any1.

They simply refused to take from me.

Salman: Hello Rakhi how was your experience in Koffee with Karan?

NB 1 and 2 were a non starrer. They wanted TRPs, Hence they
