Sherlyn ‘Chopra’ signed in by Yash ‘Chopra’Well, if you thought

all Sherlyn Chopra could do was to give skin revealing photoshots and

controversial comments, this one is for you. Miss Chopra has bagged

in a role in a film under the prestigious Yash Raj banner with none

other than Shahid Kapoor. The film will be directed by debutante

director Anurag Singh.

The film is a love triangle involving Rani Mukerji, Shahid Kapur and

Sherlyn. Chopra will be seen at her seductive best and will have a lot of

steamy scenes with Shahid.

Sherlyn, revealing as she is, reveals, “For me, this is just the beginning.

Yes, I am a part of Anurag’s film but I still need to work much harder

to get to the place where I really want to be right at the top. I have it in

me to be a kick-ass Bollywood babe and I will do it.”

On working with Shahid Kapur and Rani Mukerji, Sherlyn says, “I just

want to do this role to the best of my abilities and want them to start

wondering how I can act with so much of finesse and ease. The

director, Anurag Singh has told that he will be pitching me against

them and that I have to be on par with their performances.”

Sherlyn Chopra has already been seen in small time flicks like

‘Raqeeb’, ‘Naughty Boy’ and ‘Red Swastik’. To be known that Yash

Chopra was the one who launched Sherlyn’s debut album

‘Outrageous’. So, what do we call this, bonding between the Chopras!

Hurt Bollywood megastar retorts backTime and again Bollywood

megastar, Amitabh Bachcan has been attacked for his loyalty to UP and

his negligence towards Maharashtra. Recently, Shiv Sena mouthpiece

‘Saamna’, praised Rajnikanth for supporting Tamil Nadu in the

Hogenekkal drinking water project controversy despite the fact that

Karnataka is his birthplace. The editorial then criticized Amitabh

asking what he had done for Maharashtra.

Although, seeing that the issue was getting inflated, Shiv Sena leader

Bal Thackeray sidelined himself from the editorial and wrote that

Amitabh is a national star and should not be dragged into regional

controversies.

However, Big B was hurt and decided to retort this time by venting his

feelings to the media. In an interview, the superstar quoted, ‘’I am not

an outsider by any stretch of imagination. This land is my land as much

as it is for every other citizen of our beloved country. I came to

Mumbai in 1968 to pursue a vocation and I did not need a visa to

come here as the city had been my home for the last 40 years.

I bought my first car here and my own house. I met and married my

wife in this city and both my children were born here. My father and my

mother spent their last years in Mumbai and died here.

They were put to flames here and their ashes have mingled with the

earth of this city. This city gave me name and fame beyond anything

that I may have deserved or hoped for.

I am not leaving this city and going anywhere. Let them (MNS) throw

bottles and stones. Let them burn my effigies and bring morchas in

front of my house — but I won’t budge.

I am a public figure, not a public official. I am not a democratically

What has hurt Amitabh most is that his father-like Bal Thackrey too

did not support him. Amitabh, who has always paid due respect to

Balasaheb in every aspect, showed aptly that he was hurt saying,

‘’Balasaheb has been a father figure to us and shall remain so. In my

growing up years, my parents taught me that when elders speak, the

young listen quietly. I quietly accept whatever my elder or his outfit

has expressed.’’

Raj Kumar Santoshi on Ranbir KapoorIn his debut ‘Saawariya’,

one could easily see a glimpse of Raj Kapoor’s innocence in the

character played by Ranbir Kapoor. So, impressed was Raj Kumar

Santoshi with Ranbir’s performance in the film, that he zeroed in on

him for the character ‘Prem’ in his next flick ‘Azab Prem Ki Ghazab

Kahani’, the moment he saw ‘Saawariya’.

The film will have this Kapoor kid playing a melancholy lover-boy

hopelessly carried with the idea of being in love, somewhat similar to

what Raj Kapoor played in ‘Mera Naam Joker’ and before him, Charlie

Chaplin in ‘City Lights’. So, the film will see Ranbir carry the legacy

of these two immortal heroes from the past.

Says Santoshi, “I decided Ranbir was the right actor for my film from

the time I saw ‘Saawariya’. He plays Prem an innocent guy with a heart

of gold. Yes there will be distinct elements of Charlie Chaplin and Raj

Kapoor, though not too much of it. Raj Saab has already done it all in

Sri 420 and it would look repetitive. Also, that level of political and

sexual innocence would look odd in present times. Let’s say Ranbir

plays the Charlie Chaplin and Raj Kapoor of our times.”

In the next two months, there will be a photo session between the two

lead actors for the film, Ranbir and Katrina Kaif. The shooting will

start only after Ranbir returns from his long foreign schedule of

Yashraj films.

Santoshi is all praises for this new heartthrob of Youngistan, “Ranbir

takes interest in every aspect of the film. He’s a keen student if cinema.

His enthusiasm for cinema goes much beyond his role. I know I’ll

enjoy my shooting with him. But beyond that I’m right now enjoying

interacting with him.”

Koena Mitra in actionOur space informed you long back about

Koena Mitra signing the Hollywood action flick ‘Karna’. Now, the

lady can’t stop raving about the action packed performances the flick

has in store for her.

She says, “They treat me like a queen and they always ensure that I am

comfortable. Once you know that a huge team is there to help you and

you are not going to die, it is easier to perform action scenes. They

always tell me, ‘Koena, you are not going to die, trust us.’ The

harnesses are not hand-held like in India. Her they have ropes and 4-5

people pulling them. Over there it is all computerized. I am excited

about the film not just because of my action scenes but also because

the girl I play has different shades.”

Shiney Ahuja into bikingThe ‘Gangster’ and ‘Metro’ star Shiney

Ahuja has come a long way now. The actor who stars opposite Esha

Deol in ‘Hijack’ has done death defying stunts like hanging from the

chopper in the flick. His romance with action will not stop here as he

will flirt with bikes in his next film produced by Ashok Kheni from

down South.

Reveals Shiney, “I am doing a film on the biking industry and since I

am playing a biker, I will ride one.” Ride on, Shiney!!

breakup seems to have worked for everyone. Where Bebo and Saif are

rocking, Shahid too seems to be going places. After pairing up with

Sushmita Sen in a film to be directed by Shahid’s good friend Rohit.

The little birdie says that the production house Shemaroo has already

shot some portions of the film with an international crew without

giving a slightest hint to media. But the officials of Shemaroo

Entertainment deny the news saying that the film will go on the floors

in May and will be shot in a single start-to-finish schedule. The movie

will be shot in Mumbai and also on some international locations.

The funeral of Shomu MukherjeeThe cremation of Kajol and

Tanisha’s father and yesteryear actress Tanuja’s husband, director and

producer Shomu Mukherjee, 65, was held at Santacruz, Mumbai, on

April 10, following his death due to a cardiac arrest that morning.

Tanuja and Shomu met during the making of Shomu’s first production

film ‘Ek Baar Muskara Do’ (1972) starring Joy Mukherjee and Tanuja.

They got married in 1973 and the couple had two daughters, Kajol and

Tanisha.

Amongst the Bollywood fraternity that attended the funeral were

Shammi Kapoor, Karan Johar, Bappi Lahari, Ashutosh Gwarikar and

Maushmi Chatterji. The entire Mukherjee clan was present, including

Rani Mukherji, who is the daughter of Shomu Mukherjee’s cousin

Ram Mukherjee.

‘Raaz 2′ is not a sequel to ‘Raaz’Director Mohit Suri celebrated his

birthday with his crew on the sets of ‘Raaz 2’. On the occasion, the

directors Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt made it clear that the film is NOT

a sequel to ‘Raaz’. It has its own storyline and has nothing to do with

the original one.

The film launches a fresh face Adhyayan (Shekhar Suman’s son)

playing Kangana Ranaut’s boyfriend. Kangana Ranaut plays a

supermodel in the movie and of course, there is Bhatt Camp’s favorite

Emraan Hashmi too.

The movie shot some of its portions at Goregaon Film City, Mumbai

on 11th April, 2008 which had Kangana walking the ramp.

The newcomer Adhyayan revealed that he believes in supernatural

things and in real life seems to be very scary of minute things also.

Adhyayan said, “The scary part of the movie for which we will be

shooting is yet to come with much scary locations.”

The female lead for ‘Kajraare’ from PakistanT-Series’s ‘Kajraare’,

an intense Indo-Pak love story, directed by Pooja Bhatt with Himesh

Reshammiya in the lead role, had been announced a while back but the

female face was still missing from the chain. Now, finally the hunt is

over, as the popular Pakistani TV actress, Monalaizza, has been chosen

for the role.

“Monalaizza’s character is very intense and spans a lot of emotions.

We had to look for an actress who would be Pakistani and yet had the

persona to essay a character who remains herself though there is a lot

in store for her in that journey that is called life through

KAJRAARE…”, said Divya Kumar, the creative director of the film.

Director Pooja Bhatt is very happy with the choice and says, “It was

Javed Shaikh who helped us find Monalaizza. And she suits the

character very well. We checked out over 70 actresses before we

finalized her.”

Monalaizza, not to mention, is beaming with joy, “It is a beautiful

character and the emotions that I have to essay are immense. I feel

privileged to be selected by Divya Kumar and Pooja Bhatt for this

character.”

The film, a love story starring Himesh as a lawyer, would be shot in

Lahore, Morocco and Europe.

Chitrangada Singh is backThe memories of the talented dusky beauty

of Sudhir Mishra’s ‘Hazaron Khwaishein Aisi’ are afresh in the hearts

of the cine goers. Now, after a long silence of three years,

Chintraganda Singh is back and how!

Reportedly, the gorgeous actress has been signed by Aamir Khan for

his next production ‘Delhi Belly’. The film is supposed to be a quirky,

risqué comedy set in New Delhi.

Earlier, the film was to be directed by Swedish director Robert Nylund,

but now he has been replaced by ad-filmmaker Abhinay Deo( famous

for ‘Youngistan’ Pepsi ad).

Chitrangada is also playing the female lead in director Onir’s next

‘Sorry Bhai’ opposite Sanjay Suri and Sharman Joshi . She is also

playing Chandramukhi in Sudhir Mishra’s ‘Aur Devdas’.

Anjana Sukhani - Good times aheadThe future seems bright for

Anjana Sukhani as the girl awaits the release of not one, but three of

her films in toe.

Anjana Sukhani has already worked, though not with much weightage

and recognition in ‘Salaam-e-ishq’ and ‘Sunday‘. Now, she is set to set

the screen afire with three big releases, ‘Golmaal Returns’, ‘Allah Ke

Banday’ and ‘Jai Veeru’.

The actress is excited about all her projects and says, “Allah Ke Banday

is expected to release in early June, in which I am paired with Sharman

Joshi. This adventurous film also stars Naseruddin Shah, Atul

Kulkarni and Anupam Kher”.

However, her film ‘Jai Veeru’ by Narendra Bajaj- Shyam Bajaj is

going down in enthusiasm because of the failure of ‘The Train’ and

‘Aggar’.

“It’s a good film, but I guess the makers are taking it a little slow as of

now”, is what Anjana has to say about the movie. Adding on, she says,

“It is a fun film with Fardeen Khan and Kunal Khemu being part of it. I

am sure it would get released before 2008 ends,” says Anjana about it.

On the other hand, Anjana is having a ball of time shooting for

‘Golmaal Returns’. In fact, during one scene with Ajay Devgan and

Shreyas Talpade being shot at Film City, the girl found it difficult to

control her laughter while shooting. When, she could not control

laughing even after more than a dozen re-takes, the actors and the

director lost their patience. It was then, Ajay Devgan gave Anjana one

of his serious and intimidating looks and told her to stop laughing and

get serious about work. Devgan’s gesture worked and Anjana gave the

next shot perfectly.

Anjana has a lot to say about the film, “I am paired opposite Tusshar

Kapoor here, and imagine all the fun I would be having since Tusshar

continues to play his mute character which was so popular in

‘Golmaal’. The manner in which we both interact is a mystery and you

should see this ‘unusual love story’ to believe it”.

Mallika Sherawat - The queen of ‘Nakhras’When Studio 18 signed

Mallika Sherawat as the female lead of their film ‘Masquerade’, little

did they know that they are playing with fire (red-hot one) and now,

madam Mallika has annoyed director Kundan Shah with her ‘Nakhras’

to such an extent that the makers are left with no other option than to

shelve the project.

Reports are that Mallika was signed for Rs. 9.5 million and was even

paid 25% of her fee as the signing amount before she reported for the

movie’s shoot. However, Miss Sherawat started throwing tantrums

even before shooting could begin saying that she was not happy with

the choice of the director and the cinematographer. When director

Kundan Shah refused to give in to her interference, Mallika coolly

went to the press and declared the she had walked out of the film.

The standoff between the two reached such a peak that eventually

Studio 18 found no alternative but to call off the project. Now the

production house has lodged a complaint with IMPPA asking Mallika

to return the signing amount paid to her.

On the other hand, Mallika refuses to entertain any calls from Studio

18 and refuses to talk to the media on the issue.

Ajay Devgan and Ranbir Kapoor - Modern day Karan-ArjunAjay

Devgan had built a strong rapport with filmmaker Prakash Jha during

the making of box-office hits ‘Gangaajal’ and ‘Aparhaan’. So, it was

but natural that Jha chose Devgan to play the character of Karan his

modern day ‘Mahabharata’ which is titled ‘Rajniti’. Manoj Bajpai, in

all probability, will play the character of Duryodhana.

The latest addition to this news chain is that Ranbir Kapoor has been

approached by Jha to play the character of Arjun. Apparently Ranbir

had read the script before leaving for Italy to shoot for Siddharth

Anand’s ‘Bachna Aye Haseeno’, and has already given an affirmative

nod to Jha’s office.

‘Rajniti’ will be shot extensively in Jamshedpur and USA, and Prakash

Jha is working hard to make this movie as grand as the epic.

Birthday bash on the sets of ‘Karzzzz’Satish Kaushik had a pleasant

surprise in store for him on April 13. The director was overwhelmed

with joy when producer Bhushan Kumar and his wife Divya Khosla

Kumar surprised him by throwing a surprise birthday bash for him on

the sets of his mega-venture ‘Karzzzz’ at Cinevistaas Studios,

Kanjunmarg .

The crew winded up the shooting early and the entire unit including

producer Bhushan Kumar, creative director Divya Khosla Kumar,

actors Himesh Reshammiya, Urmila Matondkar, Shweta Kumar,

cinematographer Manoj Soni, and others had a ball of a time

celebrating Satishji’s birthday. Urmila Matondkar looked hot in a red

number as she matched graceful steps for a song with Himmesh

Reshamiya, who stole glances from everyone in his new tresses, and

without his trademark cap.

Katrina Kaif - The face of Vijay Mallya’s IPL teamWith SRK and
