Begum Afshan Abbas is keen to sing in Bollywood

Begum Afshan Abbas, who was once married to Gazal maestro

Ghulam Ali, is keen to work as playback singer in the Bollywood.

Afshan, who was here to perform a stage show told UNI that a

Chandigarh-based music company had offered her to sing ‘Gurbani’

and if things worked out, she would be ”glad to lend her voice to it”.

Stressing on the need to liberalise conditions for cultural exchange

between two countries, Afshan said since Bollywood music was also

dominated by the Punjabi beats, she would love to make her mark.

She said besides singing Punjabi songs she has also been singing

”Kafis”.

”Though I have not yet received any offer from Bollywood, I would

love to work with them,” said the Pakistani singer, whose popular

Punjabi songs like ”Gudi waang aaj mainu sajna udaia jaa”, ”Nimmi

nimmi vah wagdi rukh dolde” were great hits among Punjabi loving

audience worldwide.

Since Pakistan has been producing an increasing number of Punjabi

singers, it would be mutually beneficial for the entertainment

industries of both the nations, if this talent was utilised to cater to the

need of traditional and Punjabi music of Bollywood, she said.

Regarding her relations with Ghulam Ali she said, ”We both have

chosen different ways 25 years back and since the matter was personal I

would not like to discuss it in media.” Afshan had made her debut with

”Tannga wale nain…” on Pakistan radio 35 years ago.
