Akshay Kumar in ‘Fear Factor’

Meet the Khiladi Akshay Kumar in his new rugged and rough and tough look for his reality show ‘Fear Factor- Khatron Ke Khiladi’. Keeping in toe with the script and his action hero personality, Akshay Kumar has styled his look to be absolutely unconventional and defiant.

Styled by a London based designer, his fashion line includes unusual hooded jackets, contemporary scarves, and trendy ankle length boots. Sporting a military crew cut, salt-pepper stubble and of course designer aviator glasses, the actor sure gives several beats a miss. Tall, athletic, leaner and extremely handsome Akshay has done all the death defying stunts in the show himself, given that he is trained in martial arts.

Talking about his new look, Akshay Kumar said,

“I wanted to show all my ‘COLORS’ through my new style, Akshay’s personal style… I don’t want to look like someone else to be cool. What you see is what I am; from laughs to tears, to dangerous stuff, ladies and cheetah…It’s just me, myself and all my scarves.”

Just in case you forgot, the show will have 13 Bollywood beauties who’ll compete with each other- Yana Gupta, Aditi Govitrikar, Pooja Bedi, Sonali Kulkarni, Anita Hasnandani, Meghna Naidu, Tapur Chatterjee, Tupur Chatterjee, Nethra Raghuraman, Anjana Sukhani, Dipannita Sharma, Vidya Malvade and Urvashi Sharma. The show will be shot entirely in South Africa, over a period of one month and is being produced by Endemol India.

Saif Ali Khan to play a terrorist

When it comes to the choice of roles, Saif Ali Khan has done a variety of them from chocolate lover boy to the mean ‘Langra Tyagi’ in ‘Omkara’. And now, he has been offered a very challenging role indeed- the role of a terrorist. The film is written and is to be directed by Rensil D’Silva, who is the script writer of the block buster “Rang De Basanti”. The script was liked by Karan Johar so much, that he has agreed to produce it. And to add spice to the meaty offer, Saif will be romancing her new found passion, Kareena Kapoor herself.

Says a source close to the film,

“The story is a far cry from the usual Karan’s films. There will be no designer glam sham or naach gaana. It is a hard-hitting subject. Karan loved Rensil’s script so much that he decided to produce it. He also gave Rensil the freedom to choose the actors to justify his script. That’s how Rensil decided to cast Saif. He plays a meticulous and urban-educated terrorist. There is also an interesting romantic track between him and the leading lady, Kareena,”

adds the source.

Amisha Patel still seventeen?

Does she still look seventeen? Well, I have doubts about it but some people seem to be convinced and so there she is, on the covers of the June edition of the magazine ‘Seventeen’. After an image makeover in TPTM with skimpy clothes, here again Amisha Patel is back with her cute and lovely looks in some yellow and black outfits. But hold on! Does this not look like the same dress which Preity Zinta had donned for ‘Vogue’. Tis better if I do not say any further on it. You guys check it out for yourselves.

Sonal Chauhan All hot-n-wet in ‘Rainbow’

Miss World (Tourism) and former Miss India Sonal Chauhan had done a long chain of endorsements before being discovered by Bhatts for ‘Jannat’. To name a few there are - Lays (with Saif Ali Khan), Pepsi (with John Abrams), Ponds, Hero Honda, Nokia, and …. and… several big brands.

After having her kisses (with our serial kisser Emraan Hashmi in Jannat) and misses in Bollywood, the girl has moved on to Tollywood. Currently, Sonal is pairing next to Rahul for VN Aditya’s latest filmRainbow’. And she is no less than thrilled for it saying, “I am thrilled at Telugu film industry, which has its hoary past, recently celebrating its diamond jubilee. I know I am not working in an industry that has no history. It’s my privilege and honor to be part of Andhra Pradesh and to be entertaining its people.”

Talking about her role in the film, she says,

“My character is very very very important in the film. Say, it is the central character. I play a ravishing beauty, who comes to Tollywood to become a heroine. Why did she come to the film world, at all? Did she achieve her goal? What she has lost and what she has gained? Above all, it is a moving love story. You might even retort that you had heard similar stories. But, I assure, it is altogether a new experience for all the artistes.”

Where Sonal is reveling in every success stone she crosses, you enjoy some hot and wet pics of the hot gal from her Telugu flick ‘Rainbow’.

Don lights up a controversy

DonThe promos of Don have been creating quite a lot of hype ever since the promos have been on air. But now like a lot of movies these days, controversy takes its toll on this one as well.

It has come to notice that Union health minister Anbumani Ramadoss is quite upset with the fact that the lead actor of Don Shah Rukh Khan smokes in the film and objected to it. Producer Riteish Sidhwani and director Farhan Akhtar were quite upset over this incident. They claimed that the censor board has passed the movie without any objections and they have not done anything illegal.

Word is that Ramadoss has not yet seen the film and is making claims a bit too early. Shah Rukh’s character in fact stops a person trying to light a cigarette by saying, ‘Smoking kills, I am trying to quit smoking’ and throws the cigarette away. Incidentally the shooting of the film began just after the commencement of the banning of smoking in films. Hence there was a notification which stated that if there was a smoking scene in the film then an audio-visual should be included talking about the ill-hazards of smoking. So the producer and director justify this by making Shah Rukh do the anti-smoking scene.

Ranbir Kapoor shakes it with three beauties

That Ranbir Kapoor gets to romance three lovely ladies in director Siddhartha Anand’s ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ is a stale one now. The latest addition is that the deadly trio together with Ranbir has shot a promotional number for the movie.

Choreographed by Ahmed Khan, the number has Ranbir jiving with the three ladies of the film – Deepika Padukone, Minissha Lamba and Bipasha Basu. To be known here that the three ladies are not sharing the share screen space in the film but are appearing together only in this promotional track.

The song has been composed by Vishal-Shekhar and has interesting facts related to it. The song uses the original opening lines of the famous song “Bachna Ae Haseeno” from Rishi Kapoor’s film ‘Hum Kissi Se Kam Nahin’. Where Kishore Kumar had sung the original one for Rishi Kapoor in 1977, Kishoreda’s son Sumeet has sung the song with similar title for Rishi Kapoor’s son Ranbir Kapoor in this movie.

At first, Ranbir was supposed to sing this song but the idea was dropped later. Hope the father’s song does wonders for son’s film.

Farhan Akhtar pins his hopes on ‘Rock On’

With India’s leading production house, Excel Entertainment, producer-director Farhan Akhtar marks his debut as an actor in ‘Rock On’. The film also stars Arjun Rampal, Prachi Desai, Purab Kohli, Sahana Goswami and Luke Kenny in the lead. The film is about a rock band which was the greatest in the country but they never make it and how a long drawn reunion helps them achieve their musical ambitions. Bollywood’s principal independent PR agency Dale Bhagwagar Media Group is handling the media exercises for the film.

Writing on Facebook, Farhan says,

“I am really impressed by how many people recall the guitar riff from Lakshya in the Rock On!! track. The riff was stuck in my mind since first recorded in 2004 and we thought this would be the best outlet for it. As the lyrics say “Ye mauka nahin milega dubaara’.”

He adds,

“Rock has very rarely been served up in Indian films without the necessary “filmi sound” embellishments. With this movie, we are attempting to push the envelope and take Rock… Real Rock… and make it the basis for the soundtrack. It’s been an amazing experience putting it together and if the journey was this exciting, I’m sure the destination will be fantastic! The music will be out in mid-July.”

Luke Kenny comments,

“I am sure everyone will enjoy watching it as much as we had a blast making it…this is India’s first Rock N Roll Hindi film so wait and see.”

As ‘Rock On’ hits theatres on August 29 this year, what we are waiting for is the debut of the cute TV bahu Prachi Desai making it on the big screens.

John smokes his way into ‘No Smoking’

John Abraham quit smoking long ago, but is putting himself into the smokers’ zone again for a role. He has been smoking extensively for his role in Anurag Kashyap’s´ “No Smoking”.

Coughing intermittently, the dedicated actor said, “Oh man, I’ve just been smoking and smoking for every shot. And one has to inhale the smoke. I can’t just pretend to be smoking. If I had to fake it I’d not be doing this role. I’m turning into a smoker for an anti-smoking film.”

“Ironically, while we’re making an anti-smoking film all of us are smokers on the sets. After a shot we huddle together like college students in the locker room for a smoke,” he added.

“No Smoking” is one more endeavour by John to go against the grain. “People look at me as if I’ve gone crazy - at a time when the world is doing big-budget actions why are you doing ‘Kabul Express’ and ‘No Smoking’, have you lost it? - but that’s me. More than driving a car, I love riding a bike, I love the thought of sitting on the edge. I’m very secure about my career choices.”

Matthew Robbins, who wrote many of Steven Spielberg’s earlier films, had a lot to say about “No Smoking” to John. “He came home the other day and said it’s the best thing to have happened to Indian cinema. He told me to be grateful that I was in a film like this. Do you know no other leading man wanted to do this film? And when Anurag came to me he narrated another script, a very commercial typical thriller that he thought I’d be more interested in,” said John.

“Then he suddenly offered me ‘No Smoking’. I loved it and asked him why he hadn’t offered me this first. Then he confessed he had made up the other commercial subject on the way to meet me. He made it up in half an hour and gave me an hour-long narration just to see how I reacted. Then he offered me ‘No Smoking.”

John’s ‘No Smoking’ co-star is Ayesha Takia. “She’s a very sweet girl, and very sincere about her work.”

Rahul Khanna’s back into movies

Rahul Khanna After refraining from masala movies for years, Rahul Khanna, known for his performances in Deepa Mehta’s 1947 Earth and Bollywood Hollywood, makes his foray into mainstream Hindi cinema with Saif Ali Khan’s first production venture.

Rahul, actor Vinod Khanna’s son and Akshaye’s brother, has a very special role in the film being directed by Imtiaz Ali of Jab We Met fame. The movie also features Saif and Deepika Padukone. Talking about Rahul’s role in his home production, Saif said: “We needed someone with grace, dignity, charm, class and a sound educational background to play the role. Rahul was our first choice. Thankfully, he said yes.”

Since this is Saif’s own production and he is starring in it as well, how sizeable could Rahul’s role be?

“Depends on how you define ’sizeable’. His role is pivotal to the plot and cannot be measured in terms of footage. For the film to be effective, it is important for Rahul to be effective,” Saif said.

Masumeh Makhija’s party attendance

Masumeh Makhija at PartyThere are many actresses who try to woo the directors for a role. In return they act as if they are dogs who keep waging its tail when its’ master comes. Some do succeed and many do not. Certainly one such chapter is Masumeh Makhija.

Yes for people who are wondering who she is, Masumeh Makhija is a piece who has already tried her hand in Bollywood with films like Maqbool, Chupke Se, Padmashree Laloo Prasad Yadav and most recently seen in Dus Kahaniyan. But the babe wasn’t appreciated for any of her flicks and according to our sources she is desperately trying to get hold on a strong character which could do positives for her career graph. Now all we see her is attending parties, trying to socialize and build repo here and there. We quite often see her interacting and waving everyone away with her pleasant charming smile.

We hope this glam-doll succeeds in her mission and grabs in some good offers soon.

I want to change the view of the audiences: Raima Sen

Raima SenAfter showing her acting traits in art films, Raima now wants to turn her focus towards commercial movies. It won’t be wrong to say that her upcoming flick C Kkompany is her first step towards it. In this film, Raima will be seen playing the bossy sister of a don which is been played by Tushar Kapoor. Let’s check out what this damsel has to say about her character and lot more.

Q. We have heard that you are playing a dietitian in this film?
A. Yes, actually when I first heard about this I too got surprised. Everyone knows that I am a complete foodie and so when the director narrated me the role, I thought he was fooling around with me as I cannot identify myself with this role. I remember that my director used to tease me saying that if Tusshar eats up my burger then I should get angry and when I asked him why he said that since I was a dietitian, he always ignored me. It was only later that I realized that how bad it is to be a dietitian.

Q. What made you accept this film?
A. The main reason I chose it as it was a commercial film. And along with that being a comedy added a flavour. It was very exciting and great to work with a talented actor like Tusshar Kapoor and also under the Balaji banner. I have a song in this film and few beautifully crafted scenes which attracted me the most. I am fed up of doing serious roles and I was looking for something in which I could play my age. And this film proved to be good for me.

Q. Was this the only real reason?
A. May be no. I mean to say that I am not bored of doing serious roles but people have set one thing in their mind that Raima can do only one type of role. So I want to change the view of the audiences.

Q. Didn’t you fear before signing a Balaji project where Tusshar was sure to get the maximum footage?
A. At first I felt so. But later I and all the other actors realized that along with Tusshar the film is for all. How much profitable it is for an actress to work in a commercial film is difficult to say but one thing is for sure that everyone is gonna like this film.

Q. How was the experience of doing a full-fledged role of a bossy girlfriend?
A. I have other films also where I play a major role. I am playing an important role in Madhurita Anand’s film Mere Khwabo Mein Jo Aye with Arbaz Khan and Randeep Hooda. I play the lead in Aparna Sen’s Japani Wife. My character in Ruchi Narayan’s film is similar to the one I played in Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.

Q. Apart from these films, you are also working in Rituparna Ghosh’s Sunglass and Oriya director Manmohan Mahapatra…

A. Yes, I have a small role in Sunglass. I don’t remember the name of the film which I am doing with Manmohan Mahapatra. Rahul Bose, Diya Mirza and Nandita Das are also with me in that film. This film got complete long ago. Rahul plays a writer and I play the role of a journalist.

Q. You have worked with Zoya, Aparna Sen, Meera Nair, Madhirita Anand and Ruchi Narayan. You are the first Bollywood actress to have worked with so many lady directors. What have been your experience working with these talented women?
A. To be true, I did not found any difference working with female directors. As we are talking about them I would say that female directors are more supportive. Aparna Sen proved more like a mother than a director to me.

Q. How was Tusshar as your co star in C Kkompany?
A. He is very determined and down to earth person. This film is from his production so first of all he comforted me a lot. He used to come in my vanity van to rehearse the scenes with me. He is a perfectionist and is always well prepared before coming on the sets.

Q. You are appearing in a glamorous role for the first time in this film. Any tips you got from your sister Riya?
A. No, but when she saw me for the first time in glamorous get up, she said, “My God for the first time in my life I am finding you so beautiful”.

Q. How did you prepare yourself for the role of a dietitian?
A. I don’t think I needed any preparation for this role. My director Sachin Yardi only told me to watch my movements and make it little faster. Express everything properly. Most of the time I thought that whether I am looking like a fool or what, but Sachin asked to express everything with stress in the dialogue and acting.

Q. Is it true that now-a-days you are looking for only lead roles?
A. Yes, in future you will see me in more lead and solo roles. I think now it is time for me to do something for myself in order to establish myself in this industry.

Q. When and how did you take this decision?
A. Many people say that I have not planned my career properly by playing second lead. My well wishers want me to do films with lead role. Actually when you are in a second lead neither your work nor you are being given any due importance.

Q. Where in one hand you are working with first time directors like Zoya Akthar and Sachin Yardi and on the other you are working with directors like Aparna Sen, Rituparna Ghosh and Manmohan Mahapatra who are well experienced. What differences you see in them?
A. I think I am lucky enough to have worked with some big directors in Kolkata. But I have to make my name in commercial film also. There is no difference between the two groups. One has the experience and the other has ideas.

Q. You are doing a film with Riya. Tell us something about that…
A. Yes we have signed a film with Rituparna Ghosh, the shooting of which is scheduled to start in September. This is a periodic film and is a remake of Rabindra Nath Tagore’s story Noku Dobi. One thing interesting about the film is that we are not playing sisters in this film. It is a Bengali film and it is to be shot mostly in Kolkata. I am happy that I have got a lead role in Rituparna Ghosh’s film. Apart from this I have signed one more Bengali film with Rituparna titled Jhindher Bondhu, where I am opposite Prasenjit.

Q. Tell us something about the characters you portray in your future projects…
A. I am playing a mother of an eight year old boy in Aparna Sen’s film Japani Wife, who is a widow. Then in Mere Khwabo Mein Jo Aye I am playing a mother to a nine year old kid. It was a nice experience for me to play a mother on the silver screen because I just love children a lot. Aparna is a task master and she did a 15 days work shop with me for her film. In this workshop she made me work in Konkona’s Mumbai’s house where I was asked to wash clothes, clean the house and do other kind of house hold works.

Suneil Shetty turns mentor for Raghav Sachar

Raghav Sachar Raghav Sachar had composed and sung the title track for film one two three, in both male and female voices. Later he achieved the same feat in Sunday too with aplomb.
