I cannot cast Kareena wrongly: Imtiaz Ali

Mumbai, (IANS) Director Imtiaz Ali locked horns with Saif Ali Khan over the casting of the leading lady for their next film and it was the former who won. The director of “Jab We Met” fame has cast Deepika Padukone instead of Kareena Kapoor with the actor.

It’s not official yet. But Saif’s first production will start shooting in May 2008. It won’t star Saif’s ladylove Kareena. The matter in fact became a big bone of contention between producer Saif and director Imtiaz.

When contacted, Imtiaz, known to speak his mind — he has confessed he signed Kareena for “Jab We Met” without liking her work in any of her earlier films — is as usual forthright.

“It’s very simple. Deepika suits the role. Kareena, who is my absolute favourite, does not. Fortunately or unfortunately my fondness for an actor is not the criterion for casting,” Imtiaz told IANS.

“I cannot cast Kareena wrongly, not after casting her so perfectly as Geet in ‘Jab We Met’. I respect her talent too much for that. No one knows her worth better than me. I’m sure I’ll write a role for her in my next film and happily queue up outside her door for her dates,” he added.

Said a source close to Saif: “If Saif had his way he’d want Kareena in every production starting with his first. In fact, he was quite sure that his production house would take off with a film starring Kareena along with Saif.

“And since Imtiaz had just delivered a big hit with Kareena, Saif saw no problems on that front. Little did he know that Imtiaz had other plans. The director was sure that Kareena wouldn’t suit the female lead this time. He insisted it had to be Deepika.”

Saif and Imtiaz had several heated and prolonged arguments over the matter. But the latter was adamant.

“Saif had no choice but to give in, although Kareena, who thought she was a natural choice for Imtiaz after ‘Jab We Met’, was very hurt about being kept out of a project that’s rightfully hers,” said the source.

Kareena, who is known to fight fiercely for her rights, was obviously upset about the exclusion from her boyfriend’s first production.

“But she has mellowed considerably. All her insecurities seem to have vanished. Proof of this lies in what transpired when Kareena was in Bangkok to spend time with Saif before Christmas. Not once did she visit Saif’s location in Bangkok while he was shooting with Rani Mukerji for Kunal Kohli,” said a source who knows Kareena well.

Kentwood, La., Won’t Turn Back on Britney Spears

Half the Kentwood (La.) Historical and Cultural Arts Museum is dedicated to local men and women who served in the U.S. armed forces.

The rest is devoted to Britney Spears.

You can see Spears’ awards, the jacket she wore on “The Mickey Mouse Club,” painstakingly crafted re-creations of her childhood bedroom, and the stage she once performed on in an HBO concert special.

Many make the 5-mile drive off I-55 to the museum, where Britney T-shirts, buttons and tote bags sell so fast they’re hard to keep in stock.

Signs of enduring love in Kentwood (pop. 2,200) for a hometown girl.

Lately, an extremely sad, deeply troubled hometown girl.

“I cry every time I see another story about her on television,” said Pam Wright, 44, who works at a convenience store along Kentwood’s main drag, U.S. 51.

“I think she needs to come home to Kentwood and we’ll get her right again. Everybody here loves her. We all believe in her.”

As the 26-year-old singer’s meltdown - broken marriages, hospitalization, sons Jayden James and Sean Preston removed from her custody, and bizarre behavior - worsens, residents of Kentwood stand by their marquee native.

Young Britney

Young Britney

Amid abandoned buildings and a dying dairy industry, Kentwood is known for Kentwood Springs - a local brand of bottled water - and Britney Spears.

The girl who would become a superstar and sex symbol grew up in a ranch-style house near town - close to the Mississippi line - where she grew up with her parents, Lynne Spears and Jamie Spears, and where Jamie still resides.

About 90 miles north of New Orleans, drivers can’t miss the hot-pink sign that welcomes visitors to “The home of Britney Spears.”

The town’s support also extends to 16-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears, Britney’s younger sister and star of the Nickelodeon hit series Zoey 101.

Young Jamie Lynn made many headlines recently by getting pregnant.

Brain tumor

A brain tumour is any intracranial tumor created by abnormal and uncontrolled cell division, normally either in the brain itself (neurons, glial cells (astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, ependymal cells), lymphatic tissue, blood vessels), in the cranial nerves (myelin-producing Schwann cells), in the brain envelopes (meninges), skull, pituitary and pineal gland, or spread from cancers primarily located in other organs (metastatic tumors). Primary (true) brain tumors are commonly located in the posterior cranial fossa in children and in the anterior two-thirds of the cerebral hemispheres in adults, although they can affect any part of the brain. In the United States in the year 2005, it was estimated that there were 43,800 new cases of brain tumors (Central Brain Tumor Registry of the United States, Primary Brain Tumors in the United States, Statistical Report, 2005 - 2006),[1] which accounted for 1.4 percent of all cancers, 2.4 percent of all cancer deaths,[2] and 20–25 percent of pediatric cancers.[2][3] Ultimately, it is estimated that there are 13,000 deaths/year as a result of brain tumors.[1]

Signs and symptoms

  • Symptoms of brain tumors may depend on two factors: tumor size (volume) and tumor location. The time point of symptom onset in the course of disease correlates in many cases with the nature of the tumor (”benign”, i.e. slow-growing/late symptom onset, or malignant, fast growing/early symptom onset).
  • Many low-grade (benign) tumors can remain asymptomatic (symptom-free) for years and they may accidentally be discovered by imaging exams for unrelated reasons (such as a minor trauma).
  • New onset of epilepsy[6] is a frequent reason for seeking medical attention in brain tumor cases.
  • Large tumors or tumors with extensive perifocal swelling edema inevitably lead to elevated intracranial pressure (intracranial hypertension), which translates clinically into headaches, vomiting (sometimes without nausea), altered state of consciousness (somnolence, coma), dilatation of the pupil on the side of the lesion (anisocoria), papilledema (prominent optic disc at the funduscopic examination). However, even small tumors obstructing the passage of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) may cause early signs of increased intracranial pressure. Increased intracranial pressure may result in herniation (i.e. displacement) of certain parts of the brain, such as the cerebellar tonsils or the temporal uncus, resulting in lethal brainstem compression. In young children, elevated intracranial pressure may cause an increase in the diameter of the skull and bulging of the fontanelles.
  • Depending on the tumor location and the damage it may have caused to surrounding brain structures, either through compression or infiltration, any type of focal neurologic symptoms may occur, such as cognitive and behavioral impairment, personality changes, hemiparesis, (hemi) hypesthesia, aphasia, ataxia, visual field impairment, facial paralysis, double vision, tremor etc. These symptoms are not specific for brain tumors - they may be caused by a large variety of neurologic conditions (e.g. stroke, traumatic brain injury). What counts, however, is the location of the lesion and the functional systems (e.g. motor, sensory, visual, etc.) it affects.
  • A bilateral temporal visual field defect (bitemporal hemianopia—due to compression of the optic chiasm), often associated with endocrine disfunction—either hypopituitarism or hyperproduction of pituitary hormones and hyperprolactinemia is suggestive of a pituitary tumor.

Sha-K’s New Avatar

shahid-kapur-2.jpg

Shahid Kapur will soon be seen in a new avatar, that of a sensitive and caring teacher in Paathshala. Produced by Ahmed Khan (Lakeer, Fool N Final) and directed by Milind Ukey, Paathshala has Kapur essaying the role of an English and music teacher who helps nurture a bunch of mischievous and troubled kids.

Excited to be emulating one of his favorite actors Aamir Khan, Sha-K is looking forward to the film with much anticipation. Ahmed Khan too is looking forward to producing a film that he says, “In Paathshaala, I’m doing a film straight from my heart.”

Several recognizable child artists will be members of the Paathshala cast, such as Swini Khara (Cheeni Kum), Haji Ali (Tara Rum Pum) and Dwij Yadav (Nanhe Jaisalmer).

We remember two that both Sha-K and Ahmed were also child artists at one time. Khan was in Shekhar Kapoor’s Mr. India. In light of this fact Khan comments, “We’re all putting our minds together to look into the mind of a child and the child within a man.”

Paathshala’s school set has been erected at Film City. “We even have a basketball court,” says Khan.

Although an original script, Paathshala being written a year before Aamir Khan’s latest super hit Taare Zameen Par, producer Ahmed Khan admits there are similarities between the two films. We’ll just have to wait for the release to find out how many similarities really do exist. Will it become a super hit too? Only time will tell.

Jennifer Aniston Gives Mayer Ex the Boot!

Aniston & Mayer.jpg

A wee bit jealous are we?

performance in Hyde Park last weekend was supposed to be fun, but unfortunately one little factor kept Ms. Aniston off the ‘happy train.’

While watching her man warm up for the gig with a brief run through, the Marley & Me star happened to notice that Mayer’s former flame - was attempting to sneak into the event.

Stewart.jpg

That’s when the claws came out!

“Jennifer spotted Kimberly and asked John what she was doing there,” a witness told the Daily Mirror. “Jennifer doesn’t want anyone around who reminds her that he used to be a player.”

Let’s hope “used to” still remains in the past-tense.

Being protective of Aniston’s feelings, John promptly instructed his bouncers to eject Stewart from the premises.

Needles to say, it didn’t go over so well.

“She had been told twice by security that she would be removed but she stood there bold as brass,” the previously mentioned source commented. “John told his bouncers to get rid of her at all costs. Kim was pulled off the stage and escorted [out], shouting: ‘Why doesn’t he want me here? Is this because of her?’ She totally embarrassed herself, but Jen looked relieved.”

Kudos to Aniston for standing her ground, what the hell was Mayer’s ex even doing there anyway? Trying to tempt him perhaps

Pamela Anderson’s Kids Find Out About Sex Tape From Borat Movie

pam-anderson-sextape

Pamela Anderson had to prepare her two boys for the news of her sex video with their pop, Tommy Lee, before she could let them see the Borat movie. In fact, she sat down with them and they watched it as a family. Creepy!

There are a few things we have to talk about before you see Borat,” Pamela says she told her kids.  “And they go: ‘We know about the magazines.’ So that was one gone! I did tell them, I said: ‘You know, when your dad and I were first together we used to videotape everything. Everybody’s naked, hugging, kissing, all that good stuff and someone stole the tape.’ And I remember when we were watching the film and Dylan goes: ‘You mean everybody has seen this?’ And I said: ‘Yes.’”

Dark Circles Under Eyes

The reasons why dark circles appear under the eyes are plenty, but are mostly due to it being hereditary, due to the natural ageing process, and due to lack of proper sleep.

Reasons for getting Dark Under Eye Circles
There are many reasons as to why we get dark circles under our eyes. The most common reasons are heredity, the natural ageing process, and lack of proper sleep.

There are many other reasons attributed to these dark circles. Dark circles could point towards a liver or kidney that is not functioning as desired. Many who suffer from sinus problems could develop dark circles under the eyes. Persons with a history of eczema, hay fever, or asthma often suffer from dark circles. If the dark circles are caused due to some medical condition, you will know it, because the dark circles will be just one out of possibly many symptoms caused.

Dark circles become more pronounced as you keep ageing. The prime culprit almost always are the veins beneath the skin under the eye which is very thin. This skin is very easily damaged and is always the first to show. Ageing and damage caused by the sun make the skin thin and translucent, allowing the veins beneath very prominent. These veins are what make the skin look dark. The skin also looks baggy and puffed because elasticity of the skin keeps reducing with age read rest of the article

‘Depression’ Cause and Medication

Depression

Depression is an illness in which factors such as genetics, chemical changes in the body and external events may play an important role.  The diagnosis of depression is based on the recognition of certain characteristic signs and symptoms affecting your mood state, thinking patterns and physical well-being.  While it is often tempting to stop taking the medication when you feel better, it is important to continue until you and your doctor agree your depression is treated.  In the majority of cases, depression is an illness that can be effectively treated with medication and counseling.  Treatment of depression is an ongoing process, with your doctor monitoring and “fine tuning” your medication, depending on how it is working for you.
Depression can leave you feeling helpless and out of control of your life, your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.  Depression is one of the most common concerns of students coming to the Counseling and Mental Health Center.  Depression can also be a life-threatening illness when there is a risk of suicide.  Depression is an illness in which factors such as genetics, chemical changes in the body and external events may play an important role.  Many people wonder “When does ‘feeling down’ cross the line into depression.  In considering whether you need help with depression, it might be useful to consider the following three dimensions: Frequency, Severity and Duration.  Other times, however, the reasons for our depression are not quite as clear; that is, there may not be just one “cause,” but a variety of contributing factors that accumulate over time and lead us to that feeling of being defeated, demoralized, hopeless, helpless, depressed.  Do low self-esteem and anxiety cause depression.  Or does depression cause low self-esteem and anxiety.

Medication

Medications generally are not seen as substitutes for therapy, but work best together with therapy not only to relieve the depressive symptoms but to enhance the person’s understanding of the depression and expand his or her coping strategies for dealing with the conditions that led to depression in the first place.  Medication will not “fix” everything, but it may help lighten your mood and help you to function so that you can begin working through other problems.  Medication will not change who you are as a person, your unique personal characteristics, or your life circumstances.  A professional can help you get the help you need, whether that be counseling/psychotherapy or even possibly anti-depressant medications for a short period of time.  For more serious depressions, psychiatrists sometimes prescribe anti-depressant medications to help get the person back on track more quickly.  In the majority of cases, depression is an illness that can be effectively treated with medication and counseling.  However, there is always a chance that your depression may return once a medication is stopped.

Beware of juices laced with germs

As temperatures soar and the sun beats down relentlessly, glistening heaps of cut fruit and cool glasses of juice in stalls on the roadside become more and more inviting. Although they provide relief from the heat, they could still bring one to grief.

MCD officials are now trying to ensure that the public health department undertakes proper monitoring of juice shops and cut fruit shops in order to prevent the spread of water borne diseases. ‘‘This is the season for water borne diseases like cholera, typhoid and dysentery,” said M K Monga, chairman of the MCD health committee. ‘‘Such diseases are often spread through juice and cut fruit. We have already written to the MCD public health department to monitor such stalls, especially stalls selling sugarcane juice. Sale of sugarcane juice is banned from April 15 to September 15.”

‘‘The sweet fruits attract hundreds of flies carrying diseases, some of which even die and fall into the piles of fruit and glasses of juice. All such stalls have to maintain proper sanitation, not allow water to collect near the fruits and dispose of waste appropriately,” said Monga. Particularly sensitive areas, according to Monga, are Krishnanagar, Mangolpuri and Shahdara.

Meanwhile, all water trolleys and ice-cream trolleys plying on the city roads have also come under the scanner. ‘‘No unlicensed trolleys will be allowed on the roads and checks will be conducted at random,” added Monga.

The civic agency will also try and spread awareness among citizens about the kind of water that is used. ‘‘There are two kinds of hand pumps,” said Monga. ‘‘Hand pumps that are red in colour are shallow. Water from these is fit only for washing and bathing. Water from the green hand pumps can be drunk, but only after chlorination.”

A meeting of all MCD district health officers (DHOs) has been called on Thursday to discuss measures to be taken. ‘‘We also propose to have a weekly review of the functioning of all DHOs and keep a tab on the number of ice-cream vendors or fruit juice vendors nabbed for not following regulations,” said Monga.

Ayurveda for beautiful skin

Ayurveda has some simple home remedies that would help you get the beautiful skin, we all crave for. The first among them is to apply sandalwood paste on the face, preferably with milk. This home remedy is even known to remove white stretch marks on the skin. The second tip is to rub the whole body with refreshing coconut oil, before taking bath. This is known to smoothen skin. Ayurveda also advises people against eating food that is too spicy, if you want glowing skin.

Beat the heat

Summer is here and it is time for some tips to beat the heat and stay healthy this summer. The first thing that you need to do is to drink plenty of water. This will help in preventing your body from getting dehydrated. You should not also push yourself beyond your physical limits during times when the heat is at its peak. If possible take a short nap in the afternoon to refresh your energies. Try wearing a sunscreen lotion when going outdoors. A hat and sunglasses are also a must, come summer time.

Chronic Disease Caused by Lack of Water

Mike:
Let me start this next section by asking you about the correlation between water consumption and chronic disease. There are many diseases you mention in your books that are related to dehydration. I wonder if you can give our readers a brief of what the major diseases are and why they are aggravated or promoted by chronic dehydration.
Dr. B:
Certainly, Mike. I have written a book called Water Cures and Drugs Kill. It’s a book that explains why dehydration is the cause of pain and disease, and how the pharmaceutical industry has camou-?aged this information or covered it up and instead of letting people drink water, it advertises the use of their products, which actually do kill. Because recent ?gures have shown that prescription medications, when used according to the instruction of doctors, nonetheless kill over 106,000 people, and make 2 mil-lion people sicker than before taking the medication. And then there is another group who die from faulty prescriptions, incorrect prescriptions. So between them, about 250,000 people die from drug-related problems, medication-related problems. This makes the drugs the use of drugs the number three killer processes in the country — protected and licensed killer process. After heart disease, which kills about seven or eight hundred thousand, cancer which kills about 500,000, drugs kill 250,000 people.
Mike:
So it’s fair to say that pharmaceuticals, as packaged by modern medicine, are the third leading cause of death in this country.
Dr. B:
Absolutely, and they are useless, because most of the medication they are using is to cover up symptoms and signs and complications of dehydration in the human body. The human body manifests dehydration by a series of symptoms and signs, perceptive symptoms of dehydration — in other words, brain senses dehydration, or tiredness when you haven’t done a good day’s work, or ?rst thing in the morning when you want to get up out of bed and you’re tired, you can’t get up — that is a sign of dehydra-tion. Then anger, quick reaction, depression, these are all signs of dehydration, when the brain has very little energy from hydroelectricity to cope with the information or take action. These are some of the per-ceptive signs of dehydration. Then the body has its drought management program, which are allergies, hypertension, diabetes, and also immune diseases.
